Born in Rome, and raised in Sicily, Giorgio’s interest in photography began as a boy as he studied his father’s photography.  He spent time shooting in Africa and South America during the sixties and the seventies. His father’s passion for photojournalism was so intense that it inspired Giorgio to explore the world through the camera.

His photography career began in 1995 in New York, where he became part of the PIER59 Studios dealing with fashion and glamour issues.

After a couple of years, Giorgio met photographer Santi Visalli who became a mentor and friend, encouraging him to begin a socially oriented photojournalism path. He started contributing to American photo agencies and magazines and began to shoot daily news in New York City.  Consequentially, his love for photography has taken him around the world, looking for stories about people, places, and social matters. Spreading his interests towards the matters such as childhood, world conflicts, immigration, from the Balkan conflicts of Bosnia and Kosovo, to the internal African immigration, from the Rom communities in western Europe, to the Brazilian “favelas”, to the Italian immigrates, and other issues.

His work has been published in several important and prestigious newspapers and magazines, Italian and international, among them L’Espresso, L’Europeo, Il Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, Geo, Max, GQ, Colors, Internazionale, Zoom, People, Stern, Bergen’s Tidende, NY Times, Newsweek, Time, Vanity Fair, Los Angeles Times, The Guardian, The Observer.
