Getting There

The nearest major city to Oban and the Knipoch, which are located in the Western Highlands, is Glasgow, which is home to a major international airport. A number of international carriers service this area, either directly from the US, or other European cities. Our preferred travel professionals are Earth Excursions. They have extensive knowledge of the various ways to get to Oban.

All participants need to arrive at the Knipoch Hotel no later than Sunday, September 19 in time for the opening-night wine and cheese party where you will meet your instructors and get your first taste of the Western Highlands.

Being There

September 19:

September 20-24th: FirstLight Workshop: Oban In the morning, you’ll have breakfast in the Knipoch Hotel, after which you’ll be assigned your editor who will help you choose your assignment. Being a “start-up” morning, you’ll then view two of the instructor’s slide shows, so you can become acquainted with their work. After that, armed with your assignment, you’ll head out, through the gorgeous Highlands, to your assignment. At an assigned time, in the early afternoon, you’ll return to the Knipoch to download images, discuss the morning’s shoot with your photo editor, and head back out to photograph in the beautiful afternoon light. Evenings will host projection sessions, critiques, and three traditional Scottish meals. The workshop culminates with a final projections session, where we’ll enjoy the company of many of our subjects.

The entire process comes to life with our own FirstLight Magazine: Oban. We will develop, design and complete the magazine, each student will receive a PDF version in addition to the printed version which will arrive at your home a couple of weeks after the workshop.

Departure.

Lodging
		Accommodations for FirstLight Workshop: Oban will be the Knipoch Hotel, located six miles south of Oban, Argyll, Scotland. This beautiful 19th century estate, converted to a 4-star luxury hotel, overlooks the Loch Feochan (Loch of the Gentle Winds) Lodging for 6 nights (Sep 19th-24th) is included in your Workshop fee, which includes all breakfasts and three dinners. Workshop, and lodging, is based on a first-come, first–serve basis. This Workshop will sell out quickly, so we advise that you register early!
