Getting There

The nearest major city to Auvillar, which is located in the mid-Pyranees, is Toulouse. A variety of carriers service this area direct from Paris and other cities, or high speed rail service can take you close to your final destination. Our preferred travel professionals are Earth Excursions. They have extensive knowledge of the various ways to get to Auvillar.

While you’re traveling to France, why not make this an extraordinary vacation? Let Earth Excursions customize a tour especially for you, before or after the photography excursion. Whether you want to explore the Loire Valley, Normandy, or spend a few extra days in Paris, they can make the arrangements. Maybe you’re interested in wine tasting or biking through the countryside. Perhaps you’d like to travel further afield and spend time in Amsterdam, London or points beyond. All things are possible with Earth Excursions arranging your travel itinerary.

All participants should plan on arriving in Auvillar no later than September 5th, hopefully in time for the opening-night wine and cheese party where you will meet your instructors and get your first taste of Auvillar.

Being There

Sept. 5th: Travel day, and opening-night wine and cheese party where you will meet your instructors.

Sept. 6th–9th: FirstLight Workshop
In the morning, you’ll come down to the workshop headquarters, “Moulin a Nef”, for a light breakfast, be assigned your editor who will help you choose your assignment, then head out and start studying and shooting your subjects. Every midday, you will return to the “Moulin a Nef” to download images, discuss the morning’s shoot with a photo editor, and listen to the insights of an esteemed guest speaker. Evenings will host projection sessions, critiques, and a traditional French meal. The workshop culminates with a final projection session at the historic “La Halle” where we’ll enjoy wine and cheese and the company of the townspeople of Auvillar, including many of our subjects. The entire process comes to life with the unveiling of our own 28-page “FirstLight Magazine: Auvillar!” We will develop, design and complete the magazine on location and each student will receive a complete PDF version.

Sept. 10th: Departure.

Lodging
Accomodations for the FirstLight workshop include the Chateau de Lastours – a beautiful 19th century estate, a charming local bed & breakfast, or a gíte – a local rental home. Lodging for 5 nights (Sep. 5th-9th) is included in your Workshop fee. Once again, lodging preferences are based on a first-come, first-serve basis, so we advise you to register early.
